    Denton Parks and Rec offers affordable after school care with extended hours. Each day of school, students are picked up from school and transported to one of our recreation centers for an array of activities and tutorial time. All drivers are City employees and have completed a training course in defensive driving.

    We offer a variety of activities including intramural leagues, arts and crafts, field trips, rock climbing, "Brainy Bowl," bounce houses, skating, and more. Students also have homework or tutorial time and snack time. 

    Online registration is now available for after school child care.

    Transportation is provided to the following recreation centers from the schools listed below. Students must be picked up by 6:30 p.m. from the corresponding center.

  • Kids' Day Off | DISD In-Service and Holidays
    Whether it's a holiday, winter break, or teacher work day, we've got you covered! We jam-pack each day with physical activity, creativity, and play through a variety of fun, enriching activities and field trips. 

    Kids must be dropped of by 9 a.m. each day and need to pack drinks, snacks, and a lunch. The fee includes all activities, field trips, and transportation. Preregistration is required two days prior to each date to avoid cancellations due to a lack of minimum enrollment. Register online.

  • All-Day Camps

    Unless otherwise noted, campers need to bring a lunch, snacks, and drinks each day. Field trips fees are included. The camp fee includes field trips, themed activities, arts, crafts, and swimming. Nonresidents add $5 per session/week.

    Camps are at Denton Civic Center, Denia Rec Center, MLK Jr. Rec Center, and North Lakes Rec Center. Each location has different field trips organized. Please review the online guide for more information.

Preschools + Preschool Summer Camps
  • North Lakes Part-Time Preschool
    Licensed by the Texas Dept. Family and Protective Services. Students will learn, laugh, and grow in a safe, fun, and caring environment. Instructors teach numbers, letters, colors, and shapes through music, arts and crafts, physical education, stories, and occasional field trips. Students must be potty trained and bring their own lunch, snacks, and drinks daily.
    Admission requires a deposit equal to one week's tuition. North Lakes Preschool is located in the North Lakes Annex at 1117 Riney Rd. For more information, call (940) 349-8287.

    Enrollment is limited to 12 students, ages 3 to 5.

  • Full-Time Licensed Preschools, ages 3-5
    Full-time Preschools
    Denton Parks and Rec Preschools are a safe environment that emphasizes hands-on learning, motor skill development, and creativity. We teach literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, arts, and technology using the Mother Goose Time curriculum.

    Our students also experience and learn social responsibility fostered through a variety of games, center-based activities, and field trips.We are committed to high standards of care and are therefore licensed by the Texas Dept. Family and Protective Services. We are also a Child Care Management Service program of the Texas Workforce Commission dedicated to help eligible parents with the cost of child care. 

    Tuition is $460 per month, and admission requires one month tuition at the time of registration. Students must be potty trained and bring their own lunch, snacks, and drinks each day. Enrollment is limited to 12 students.

    The all-day summer camp is great for kids in preschool! Licensed by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services and taught using the Mother Goose Time curriculum.

  • Aquatic Explorer Camp
    Dive into the splashiest camp of the summer!
    Ages 7-14 | 1-4 p.m. | $85/week

    Camp is weekly in June and July at the Denton Natatorium. Enriching activities will be planned, with plenty of water fun mixed in. Each week is a new theme, with new adventures to enjoy. Apply online.
  • Karate, Language, and Fashion
    Red Tiger Karate, ages 6-12

    A summer ninja camp for all levels. Campers practice with safe ninja weapons like nunchucks while improving coordination and confidence.

    UNT Language Explorer, grades 6-11

    Campers are taught by UNT professors and will learn about constructing new languages while writing in various scripts like Hindi and Chinese.

    All girls are welcome in these camps! Girls in 4th and 5th grade will earn Eco Camper and Outdoor Art badges, and girls in 6th through 8th grade will earn Archery and Outdoor Art badges.

    Teen Outdoor Adventure, ages 11-16

    The zombie apocalypse is coming! Teens will learn survival skills like archery and fishing while also getting to rock climb, kayak and more.

  • STEM Camps
    Engineering for Kids, ages 6-12

    Proud to inspire children to build on their natural curiosity by teaching engineering concepts through hands-on learning. There are six weekly sessions through July and August with themes like Coding and Gaming, Minecraft EDU Medieval, Forensic Investigators, and more! 

    Camp Invention, ages 5-11

    Nationally recognized summer program  focused on creativity, innovation, real world problem solving, and the spirit of invention. Camp is led by DISD science teachers.

    Youth Tech Inc., ages 6-17

    Dedicated to providing enrichment opportunities for students with a passion to explore the edge of their imagination with cutting edge software. Seven weekly sessions are through June and July and offer different focuses like Video Game Design, iCode, Animation, and more. Different topics are for different age ranges.

    Medieval Times with Minecraft

    Minecraft EDU is an expansive game that lets players design and create unique worlds with amazing structures. One of the more complicated aspects of Minecraft EDU is Redstone, which is Minecraft EDU’s version of electrical circuitry. This class will introduce students to the many uses of Redstone through a Medieval themed adventure of creation, exploration, and castle besieging, with students making mine cart tracks to help them gather resources, working together to build their kingdom, and designing traps to defend their castle, all with the use of Redstone. Laptops and software will be provided. One-time $20 licensing fee.

    3D Printing: Super Hero Creations
    July 10-13; Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m -noon
    $130 per student
    Students will take their Super Hero design and learn how to extrude it into a 3D model that can then be modified to be printed in 3D. In our 3D Printing program, students will explore the basic concepts of 3D printing and computer-aided design, or CAD, to bring their most awesome Super Hero creation to life! One-time $20 licensing fee.

    Get Wired with Makey Makey Invention Kit Camp
    July 17-20; Monday-Thursday, 1-4 p.m.
    $130 per student
    Makey Makey is an invention kit for the 21st century that turns everyday objects into touchpads and combines them with the internet. In our hardware engineering program, students engineer their own customized video game controllers using a Makey Makey device and materials that can be found in just about any kitchen. Through application of circuitry, acoustical engineering and video game design, students discover new ways to interact with technology, all while creating unique designs in a fun collaborative environment.

    MaKey MaKey is an invention kit for the 21st century. Turn everyday objects into touchpads and combine them with the internet. It's a simple Invention Kit for beginners and experts doing art, engineering, and everything in between.

    3D Printing: Minecraft Creations
    June 19-22; Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m -noon
    $130 per student
    Students will take their Minecraft design out of the world of Minecraft and learn how to extrude it into a 3D model that can then be modified to be printed in 3D. In our 3D Printing program, students will explore the basic concepts of 3D printing and computer-aided design, or CAD, to bring their most awesome Minecraft creation to life! One-time $20 licensing fee.

    Electronic Game Design
    July 10-13; Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m -noon
    $130 per student
    Kids use Clickteam Fusion 2® to create their own video game from start to finish. We will use the engineering design process to create storyboard that will outline the rules of play and characters for our game based on the basic rules of racing. Then, we will use Clickteam Fusion 2.5® to bring our storyboard to like with programming. At the end of the program, everyone takes home a working Windows-compatible game.

    LEGO® Robotics Rescue Robots, ages 10-14
    June 26-29; Monday-Thursday, 1-4 p.m.
    $130 per student
    During the Robotics Rescue Robots program, students design and program robots to respond to simulated disaster situations such as moving rubble and retrieving targets using LEGO® MINDSTORMS™ EV3 sets. Robots to the Rescue!

    LEGO® WeDo™​​ Robotics Rescue Robots, ages 5-9
    June 26-29; Monday-Thursday, 1-4 p.m.

    This class is a perfect mixture of fun and learning, using LEGO® WeDo™ Robots. Students build various wild animals, amazing mechanisms, and soccer-themed gadgets. They also learn how to program and operate their creations using a laptop computer.

    Forensic Investigators​, ages 6-12
    June 19-22; Monday-Thursday, 1-4 p.m.
    $130 per student
    Kids will embark on a new journey to decipher clues and biological codes, trace evidence, and use forensic techniques to help identify the perpetrator. One-time $30 supply fee.

    We bring young technicians into a creative engineering enviroment with “Zillions” of hands on pieces this innovative program offers unseen NEW games, projects and activities led by a certified educator. Your child will use and develop their critical thinking skills to construct dinosaurs, rockets, castles, airplanes, forts, cars, and more. Older builders will expand knowledge of math, science and technology in an exploratory hands-on cooperative environment the is age specific.

    Ultimate Survival, ages 7-12
    July 31-Aug, 4; Monday-Friday, 2-4 p.m.
    $100 per student
    During survival situations, the four basic needs, become shelter, water, fire, and food. By introducing basic techniques, enlisted kids will learn how to purify water, leave no trace camping, signal for help, wilderness navigation, search for edible food, first aid, set up shelter and even learn Army chants! Wrapped in games and outdoor adventure, unique challenges await!

    Using specialized LEGO® Technic pieces such as gears, axles, and electric motors, children work in pairs to construct a variety of Bricks 4 Kidz models, as well as build creations of their own during our free-play periods. Our camps keep the pace fast and the action going with LEGO® Bricks, games and more to ensure kids will have plenty of LEGO® fun! Bricks 4 Kidz staff are screened previous to employment and provide friendly, qualified guidance for your children.

    Snacks and Lunch
    Regardless of being registered for the free lunch program, kids must bring two snacks a drink each day. The free lunch program is available on non-field trip days, June 12-Aug 11.

  • Teen Adventure Camps, ages 12-16
    summer teen ADVENTURES

    All supplies are provided; experience is not required. Each camp begins with an introduction to the activity and progresses in difficulty during the week. Taught by ACA assessed and Red Cross Lifeguard certified staff. Each week includes field trips to practice at multiple locations.

    All adventures will start and finish at Denia Rec Center. Bring a sack lunch, water bottle, sunscreen, and wear appropriate outdoor clothing including closed-toe shoes. For adventure specific questions, call (940) 349-7784.

    Summary of Qualifications for Enrollment; No Exceptions
    To qualify, your household must fall under one the following income levels. Click here to view income levels. 

    All households must provide the following documents:

    • A birth certificate with original seal for each child
    • If legal guardian, legal documentation showing guardianship
    • A 2016 completed single or joint tax return with supportive documents (i.e. W-2 or other proof of income) and child must be listed as a dependent on tax return
    • Proof of residency in City of Denton (electric bill and driver’s license must match)
    • Four (4) most recent check stubs for each person in household for all jobs 
    • If received, proof of the following types of income from any household member:child support, adoption subsidy, alimony, SSI, Social Security, Veteran’sAdministration benefits, unemployment compensation, worker’s compensation, and any other retirement or disability benefits
    • If one the of the parents is residing in another country, current proof of residency of country, 4 current pay stubs, and 2016 tax return if country of residency requires.    

    Two-parent households, including parents not living in same household, must both meet at least one of the following documented requirements:
    • Currently working at least 30-40 hours per week                  
    • Proof of attending an educational program (i.e. paid tuition receipt & class schedule) and registered as a full time student for the entire summer. 

    Single-parent households must meet at least one of the following documented requirements:
    • Currently working at least 30-40 hours per week
    • Proof of attending an educational program (i.e. paid tuition receipt & class schedule) and registered as a full time student for the entire summer. 

    Single-parent households must provide the following documents if pertains to your current situation:
    • A birth certificate for the child with original seal that lists you as the only parent
    • Documentation that you are divorced or separated and you must have documented proof from the attorney general’s office that you are not receiving child support
    • A death certificate if other parent is deceased
    • If parent is currently incarcerated, documented proof of the dates of incarceration
  • Twisted Teens Aerial Intensive, ages 10-17
    Aerial classes make great extra-curricular activities! Teens will build strength, flexibility, stamina, and have a blast, regardless of fitness level. We care about safety and take the utmost care in teaching aerial skills. 

    Our training starts kids low to the ground and as they demonstrate maturity and strength, are allowed to take skills higher into the air, but only when ready. Sessions will end with a friends and family showcase. Register by July 9; July 10-23 add $15.
