Get Started

Denton residents are eligible for a free library card, which provides access to the services and amenities below. Options are also available for nonresidents.

To get a library card, complete an application and present it in person at the circulation desk of any Denton Public Library with a current photo ID and proof of your current residence address.
  • Acceptable Proof of Current Address
    • Driver's license, temporary Texas Driver's license, or learner's permit
    • Texas Department of Public Safety ID
    • Personalized check, savings passbook, bank or credit union statement
    • Utility deposit receipt or utility bill
    • Current credit card bill
    • Voter's registration or notarized temporary voter's registration permit
    • Vehicle registration or liability insurance
    • Official rent receipt; rental agreement, contract, or lease
    • Mail postmarked within the last 30 days (if none of the above is available)
    Children (17 years of age and younger) can get cards but must be present at the time the card is issued.
  • Nonresidents
    If you live outside the Denton city limits, you can receive full access for $50 per year or $25 for six months.
    With your card, you receive access to unlimited checkouts, electronic databases from the Library and home, downloads of electronic media and eBooks, and extra key fobs for the entire household. You can pay at a library with cash, check, or credit card (MasterCard, Visa, or Discover). You may also call the Denton Public Library at (940) 349-8752 and ask to purchase a card, and the application will be mailed to you.
  • TexShare Passes
    Denton Public Library cardholders, who are in good standing, are eligible to apply for a TexShare pass to borrow materials at other participating library systems. For information, contact the Denton Public Library at (940) 349-8752 or Library@cityofdenton.com.
    Once you have your library card, you’ll have complete access to the Library’s services and amenities that are outlined below.
