The City's commitment to online security
Physical, electronic and managerial procedures have been employed to safeguard the security and integrity of personal information. The City Web sites encrypt requested billing information. To protect the security of information supplied by citizens and businesses retrieving sensitive information from our Web sites, access to such sensitive data requires the use of unique IDs and passwords.
The City's sites have security measures in place to protect against the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information we control. These sites use the layered security model to enhance system security protection. The multi-layered approach to security separates the City's internal information from externally-accessible information.
Personal information that the City may collect online
The City of Denton collects personal information online, including names, postal and e-mail addresses, phone & fax numbers, billing & payment information, Driver's License numbers, dates of birth, and City-offered class registration data. This information is gathered when users enter the information manually. We do not surreptitiously retrieve sensitive data from Web users.
The City of Denton does not knowingly collect or maintain any personal information from children under the age of 13.
How the City uses personal information collected online
Unless you otherwise consent, we will use your personal information only for the purpose for which it was submitted, such as to reply to your e-mail messages, handle your complaints, and to process billing and business requests related to program participation.

In order to properly handle queries, comments and complaints, your information may be forwarded to a different department to expedite service.
Information you supply to the City of Denton may be requested in compliance with the State of Texas Public Information Act. By law, any information that falls within the boundaries of the Texas Public Information Act can be provided to anyone who requests it.
We never sell, rent, or trade your personal information.

Computer tracking and cookies
Our Websites are not set up to track, collect or distribute personal information not entered by visitors. Our site logs do generate certain kinds of non-identifying site usage data, such as: Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, computer operating systems, Web browser information, connectivity speed, session-length, time & date of access and other http-header information to compile traffic statistics. This information is used for internal purposes by technical support staff to provide better services to the public and may be provided to other organizations or agencies, but only as generic demographic data.

Notwithstanding the above, information held by the City of Denton is presumptively public information under the Texas Public Information Act, except to the extent that such information is specifically exempted from public disclosure under the law.
